About Angell Deer

Medicine man. Veterinarian. Sacred Disruptor.

I'm Angell Deer, mystic, animist teacher, beekeeper and founder of Sacred Paths. For over twenty years I've walked the path of Andean Cosmology and Norse Shamanism, learning from elders, from the land, and from the old songs that still live in the trees, the bones and the breath.

I teach where grief meets grace, and where purpose is forged in the fire of personal and planetary change. Healing is relational. Prayer is made with both hands in the soil.

The fire does not tend itself. Neither does the soul.

The long way here

I raised forty million dollars in the corporate world. Then I walked away from every cent of it.

I know the empire from the inside. I left because I could feel the machine eating the world. And eating me.

For twenty years I stewarded The Sanctuary in the Catskills, a refuge for healing, rewilding and remembering what it means to be fully human. I also founded the New York Bee Sanctuary.

Then, at midlife, I began again. I now live with my wife and children at La Ferme du Cerf Bleu, an 18th-century farm in Burgundy, France. We tend trees, bees and ancestral ceremony, and slowly return twenty acres to the wild.

Everything I teach grows from that ground.

On certifications

Our path is revealed to us.

In energy work, I've found that certifications are not the most important thing. They can guide and help, but they are not where our path is. The path is unique to you, to me, to everyone. It is a process of remembering something we already know.

So what are my more important certifications? Daily sacred habits. A clean, local, homemade diet. The daily inner work of remembering. Gratitude for what I have. Never-ending self-healing. Compassion for the struggle of others. Time spent seeking truth in silence. Openness to the wisdom of Mother Nature. And the constant surrender to the greatest truth of all: I do not know anything.

The place

Everything I teach comes from this ground.

La Ferme du Cerf Bleu, Burgundy. Old stone walls, an orchard remembering its wildness, beehives, and a fire lit every new moon.
