A Journey of Evolution and Deep Connection
For over a decade, "The Sanctuary" has been a beacon of healing, learning, and ancient wisdom in the heart of the Catskills, founded and nurtured by Angell Deer. It has been a sacred space where hundreds of events have taken place, and thousands of people have come to connect, remember, heal, and immerse themselves in teachings that span across generations and cultures. The Sanctuary has been more than a center for shamanic studies; it has been a home for many seeking refuge and a deeper understanding of themselves and the natural world.
But like all journeys, mine too has evolved. My path has led me towards deeper, more profound truths that have emerged from spending intimate time with the land, the trees, the plants, the animals, and the elements that reside here. Over the years, the work has expanded far beyond the walls of The Sanctuary to encompass a holistic way of living, rooted deeply in ancient cosmology and what I call "embodied spirituality."
Deer Medicine and Ancient Paths
Deer have long been a part of my spiritual journey, representing a deep connection to ancestral wisdom. Deer follow paths in the forest that have been used by generations before them, leading to shelter, food, water, and nesting grounds. These paths are not just physical trails but also spiritual journeys, forged by their ancestors and preserved through time.
My connection to Deer Medicine has deepened over the last ten years, guiding me to reconnect with my own ancient paths. Just as the deer follows these trails, I have found myself walking in the footsteps of my spiritual ancestors, rediscovering the wisdom that has always been a part of me.
Oak Tree Medicine: The Anchor and the Light
In parallel, my bond with the Oak tree has provided grounding and guidance. The Oak stands as a steadfast teacher and anchor, its strong roots delving deep into the earth while its branches reach out to touch the light of the sun, the moon, and the spirit.
The Oak reminds us to stay grounded and connected to our roots, even as we aspire towards higher spiritual realms. This balance between earth and sky, the tangible and the ethereal, is the essence of my work and has deeply influenced the transformation from The Sanctuary to Sacred Paths.
Sacred Connections with Elders and Traditional Teachers
This deepening of connection to the land, ancestors, and spirit has also been enriched through my relationship with many elders and traditional teachers of ancient ways.
These wise guides have generously shared their knowledge, helping me to integrate and honor the practices and wisdom that resonate through Sacred Paths.
Their teachings have provided a deeper understanding and an authentic foundation for my work, allowing the energy of Sacred Paths to flow with the strength and integrity of time-honored traditions.

"Sacred Paths" is the next chapter in this unfolding journey. This name change did not come quickly but has been a gradual and natural evolution that has taken years to reveal itself. It signifies not only my personal transformation but also speaks to the unique journey of every individual who seeks to walk their sacred path through my teachings, gatherings, and one-on-one sessions.
Each path is unique, a soulful journey that has never been trodden by any other. Our work together in Sacred Paths supports this individual unfoldment. Here, we remember that we are both teacher and student, always learning from each other in a circle of shared wisdom and experience. Sacred Paths is a testament to the power of interconnectedness and sacred reciprocity.
